Cleaning Supplies and Equipment
On a regular basis, you need to clean and disinfect bird cages, dishes, toys and other items that your birds use. Some soft bird seed foods can harden on food dishes into a substance just slightly softer than granite.

Toys
Think of your bird as you would a three-year-old child. They both love playing with their toys. Toys are important to your bird's happiness and emotional well-being. Learn about the wide variety of bird supplies available to choose from.

Cages
Bird cages come in a wide variety of styles, shapes and sizes. One of the most important considerations is that the cage be of adequate size for your bird. A good rule of thumb is to buy the largest bird cages you can afford. This is particularly true when dealing with larger species, such as Parrots and Macaws.

Seeds and Formulated Pellets
Some bird seed diets boast the addition of vitamins and minerals. The downside, most of the supplements sift to the bottom of the bag or seed cup, and birds often discard them. Formulated pellets are the foundation of a nutritionally complete diet. They're easy to buy, feed, store, and they won't put a big dent in your wallet.

Seed Bells and Seed Sticks
Bird seed bells or bird seed sticks should be used as treats and should make up only 10 percent of your pet's diet. Many bird owners use these treats as the main dietary source. If you try to base your bird's entire diet on bells or sticks, you will inhibit good nutrition.
